Sweating is a natural way of regulating body temperature. It does this by releasing water and salt, which vaporises to cool your body.
Sweating by itself doesn't burn a measurable amount of calories, but sweating can help you lose more water. However, this is only a temporary hindrance. Once you are hydrated by drinking water, you will gain back the weight you lost immediately.

The idea is that disciplines like Yoga and Pilates don't reduce fat because they make you sweat less because they actively build a fit body. So, sweating in the gym or running for hours doesn't mean you burn a lot of fat, but your body tries to rest.
How many calories do you burn with your mouth?
Some people claim that activities like Bikram Yoga allow you to burn 1,000 calories per hour – but this claim is false. One study found that in a 90-minute Bikram Yoga class, women burned an average of only 330 calories and men burned 460 calories. This equates to sweating while running 3.5 mph for the same amount of time.
You can burn calories even during activities that don't make you sweat a lot. For example, you can still burn calories by swimming, lifting low weights, or exercising when it's cold outside in winter.
Why do some people sweat more?
How much you breathe depends on several factors. Your weight and fitness level affect how much you sweat during exercise. Your body needs more energy to work with more weight. This leads to more sweating, because the body has more volume than it needs to cool down. The better your body is, the faster you will breathe. Sweating quickly means that your body cools down quickly. This allows you to work faster for longer periods of time.

If you are sweating, you are more likely to be dehydrated. Warm or moist air makes your mouth water. You should drink half a litre of water for every kilo of mouthfuls. Don't wait until you are thirsty enough to drink water. Instead, carry a water bottle with you and drink it regularly during exercise.
Severe dehydration can be dangerous. Get immediate medical help for these symptoms:
- Very tired or confused
- Fatigue that does not go away even after standing for a while or sitting down for a while. Adding to the extreme exhaustion or confusion in that particular state.
- Not urinating for eight hours
- Weak pulse
- Rapid pulse
- Loss of consciousness
However, during some types of exercise, sweating is a way to increase your intensity, or how hard you work. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that healthy adults get 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week -- or enough to break their mouth while talking.
If you sweat a lot on a regular basis, this particular condition is called hyperhidrosis. See your doctor if sweating interferes with your routine. Also, check with your doctor if you have unexplained night sweats, or if you suddenly sweat profusely. Seek medical help immediately if you sneeze:
- fever of 104°F (40°C) or higher
- chest pain
- shortness of breath
- rapid heart rate
How to burn calories safely with sweating
To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. You need to burn 3500 more calories to lose 1 pound. The best way to achieve a healthy weight is to follow an active lifestyle. Eating a healthy diet filled with whole foods and exercising regularly & sweating (about 30 minutes, five days a week) is the best way to safely achieve your weight loss goals.
Losing weight temporarily can help you shed a few pounds faster. Wrestlers and equestrians who require a certain weight to compete use this technique.
However, calories lost are not significant, and is not a healthy way to lose weight. One study found that rapid weight loss caused by sleep negatively affects women's athletic performance, but more research is needed.
If you are trying to lose weight then slow walking and sweating is the best way. Eat a healthy diet and do regular exercise. Your doctor can also help you make a plan that suits your lifestyle.
